Our History
Glen Leu Farmstay is named after "Glen Leu Farm", a nursery established by our family in 1933. On 16th December 1933, our grandfather, the late Shri Bhuwan Prasad Pradhan sent cut flowers to Calcutta, New Market, to a Mr. Bhattacharjee. This was the first historic supply of cut flowers from Sikkim to Calcutta.
Glen Leu Farm was a prime attraction till the late 1970s, when flower bulbs, seeds, plants, cut flowers were supplied to the markets of Calcutta and other places in the country. In fact, flowers from the farm even made their way to the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s gardens!
Today, the farm is home to a multitude of flowering plants, such as various species of orchids, lilies, bougainvillea, gerberas, flamevine, wisteria, and gladioli, that bloom at different times of the year.
Our Heritage
Glen Leu Farmstay exists as part of a property of 15 acres of farmland. Within this property lies our ancestral home - Sumbuk Kothi - an imposing structure built in a colonial style. It was constructed by our great-granduncle, the late Shri Haridas Pradhan, who is pictured here. He was the first Chief Justice of Nepal, who helped draft the erstwhile kingdom's constitution - a leather-bound copy of which still exists in our library. Our ancestral home also houses many antique items and papers of historical significance - some of which are on display for our guests to view.
Our Farm
Glen Leu Farmstay reflects the ambience of a typical Sikkimese village and farm set in 15 acres of lush pasture land with zero air and noise pollution. The Farmstay is nestled inside a 3-acre property which includes an orchard with orange groves, avocado trees, banana plants, guava, grapefruit and pear trees, a very old mango tree and mulberry trees. Apart from these fruit-bearing trees, you will also spot broom plants, Schima and other species of trees in an evergreen mini forest. We also grow cardamom, tea, and some of our own herbs, leafy greens and vegetables.
